Transgender Care

August 13, -
Speaker(s): Dr. Chris Barcelos, Dr. Jaqueline Gomes de Jesus, and Dr. Siobhan F. Guerrero McManus
Meeting ID: 944 7562 4466
This is the fifth of a series of student-organized workshops around the theme of "Revaluing Care in the Times of COVID-19". LJ Brandli has put together an exciting lineup of participants: Dr. Chris Barcelos, Assistant Professor of Gender & Women's Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (US); Dr. Jaqueline Gomes de Jesus, psychologist, writer and activist (Brazil); and Dr. Siobhan F. Guerrero Mc Manus, Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico

"Transgender people often face significant barriers to care. Many of these barriers stem from fear of discrimination at the hands of healthcare professionals, social workers, and other non-profit entities. The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted and exacerbated many pre-existing discriminatory practices. In the United states, the roll-back of Obama-era healthcare protections based on gender identity in the midst of the pandemic has further marginalized the transgender community and created new obstacles for care. This workshop features scholars from Mexico, Brazil, and the U.S. in a discussion about how COVID-19 has impacted transgender care, how transgender communities and activists have responded, and how we can move forward with more equitable care practices."
