Spanish Civil War of 1936-39 through historical and literary readings, art, music, and film. Special attention given to women's experience and cultural production and to values held by supporters of each side, and how they put them into practice during and after the war. Consideration of American volunteers who fought fascism in Spain. Emphasis on human rights violations, and how they still affect Spain today. Taught in Spanish. Recommended prerequisite: Spanish 331S or Spanish 316S, or higher, or permission of instructor.
