1995 Major: Political Science and Women's Studies; Markets & Management Studies certificate

How has being a GSF (or Women's Studies) graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"The Women's Studies major gave me a feminist consciousness and colors my worldview. I also did my thesis in Women's Studies, which was a year-long research and writing project that gave me confidence to tackle research papers during my graduate work. I've recently become the leader of my organization's gender initiative, which is an interesting challenge."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies programs?

"I suggest you take advantage of as many scholarly and experiential opportunities as you can, even if they do not appear initially interesting. While finding your passions is essential, even learning what you don't like can be just as useful."
