Erin Smith

Class of 1997

Professor Smith teaches courses in 19th and 20th-century American literatures and cultures and in Gender Studies at UT-Dallas, where she worked since earning her PhD at Duke. Professor Smith published two books focused on gender and popular reading in the 20th-century U.S..: Hard-Boiled: Working-Class Readers and Pulp Magazines and What Would Jesus Read?: Popular Religious Books and Everyday Life in 20th-Century America.

How has being a Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies (formerly Women's Studies) graduate from Duke University help shape your professional success?

I was hired at UT-Dallas, because they were starting a Gender Studies Program. My WGS training was the reason I got the job.
